Reconnecting with Nature: A Summer School in the Greek Highlands

In an age where screens dominate attention and daily life feels increasingly fast-paced, the opportunity to slow down and reconnect with nature has never been more valuable — especially for teenagers. That’s why our EdVentures Village was created: to give young learners the chance to rediscover the world beyond the classroom, surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of mainland Greece.

The Greek highlands are a world apart from the crowded beaches of summer tourism. Here, students wake to the sound of mountain birds, learn beneath the shade of fir trees, and breathe the fresh air of pine-covered hills. This is Greece as few have experienced it — peaceful, authentic, and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature.

Our highlands summer school combines English learning, outdoor exploration, and wellbeing, designed to inspire curiosity, independence, and environmental awareness. Lessons are interactive and project-based, using the natural environment as a classroom. Students might write about a local myth while sitting by a mountain stream, calculate distances on hiking trails, or lead a group discussion on sustainability and conservation.

But education here also happens through experience. Hiking, orienteering, and team-building games teach cooperation and problem-solving. Evening campfires and creative workshops spark reflection and self-expression. Every moment encourages young people to look up from their devices, engage their senses, and feel present in the world around them.

This kind of experience builds resilience and perspective. Away from city distractions, teens learn to rely on themselves and their peers. They discover that connection doesn’t come from Wi-Fi — it comes from shared laughter, teamwork, and adventure.

The Greek highlands provide the perfect setting for this journey. With their pristine forests, traditional stone villages, and clear mountain rivers, they offer both safety and serenity. Local communities welcome visitors with warmth, offering authentic glimpses into rural Greek life — from traditional crafts to regional cuisine prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

Parents appreciate that this is a well-supervised, boutique-style programme with the same high standards as all EdVentures camps: comfortable accommodation, nutritious meals, and 24/7 support from experienced staff. What makes it unique is its emphasis on simplicity — living close to nature, learning through movement, and embracing the values of mindfulness and sustainability.

By the end of the programme, students return home refreshed, confident, and more connected — to themselves, to others, and to the natural world. In reconnecting with nature, they also reconnect with curiosity, balance, and the joy of learning.

Because sometimes, the best classroom doesn’t have walls — it has mountains.
