Forming International Friendships While in Summer School

Ask any student what they remember most about their summer school experience, and you’ll hear the same answer: the friends they made.

Summer schools create an environment unlike any other — one where young people from different countries live, learn, and play together. Within days, they’re sharing stories, teaching each other words in their own languages, and discovering how much they have in common. English becomes a bridge between cultures, connecting students through daily interaction.

These friendships begin with teamwork. Whether students are completing a project, joining a sports match, or exploring a historic site, they learn to communicate, collaborate, and respect one another’s perspectives. English becomes not just a subject, but a tool for connection. At EdVentures, we design every aspect of our programme to encourage connection. Mixed-nationality classes, team activities, and evening events create a sense of community and belonging. Students not only improve their English — they also learn empathy, cooperation, and cultural awareness.

At EdVentures, we see friendships blossom from the very first day. Students bond over meals, laugh during evening activities, and support one another through challenges. By the end of the programme, they’ve built a global network of peers — friends from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.

These relationships often last for years. Many of our alumni stay in touch online, visit each other’s countries, and continue to share experiences long after summer ends.

Forming international friendships is more than fun — it’s preparation for life in an interconnected world. It teaches empathy, curiosity, and respect for diversity — qualities that define not just good students, but good global citizens.
